Miles 250.jpg

About me

Miles is a Chinese-American theater artist, educator, and cultural worker based in Chicago. Ever since his stage debut as Ms. Hannigan in Annie Jr., he has been chasing the high of taking swigs from an apple juice-filled flask on stage ever since.

As a theater artist and writer, most of his work focuses on exploring the intersections of perception, identity, and the Chinese-American experience. His most recent work, "Authenticity", a one-person show, got him named one of the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art's (MCA's) "Best Artists Under 21" and was performed in residency at the MCA.

Along with his artistic practice, Miles also works across Chicago as an art educator. Working across the city with Tony-winning institutions like the Steppenwolf Theatre, The Goodman Theatre, or the CPS Department of Art Education, his teaching philosophy is based in ensuring that young people across Chicago have the resources and knowledge to tell and share their stories freely.

As a cultural worker, Miles has used practices based in Boal's "Theatre of the Oppressed" to aide in community building and cultural growth. From union work to prison reform, Miles is outspoken about finding ways to use art to bring our communities together in order to create a cultural army—one that unites all of us as soldiers in a fight for a brighter tomorrow.

When he's not doing any of the stuff above, you can find Miles baking, watching Arrested Development, or drinking quantities of bubble tea that his doctor has called  "concerning".
